据悉，２０１６年中国女子足球协会杯赛分两个阶段进行，第一阶段于２０１６年３月７日至１７日在昆明海埂体育训练基地举行，１５支参赛队分４个小组进行单循环赛，每组前两名进入第二阶段比赛；每组第三、四名直接进行淘汰附加赛，决出第９－１５名。
第二阶段将于７月至１０月间举行，进入前八名的队伍采取主客场淘汰赛制。决赛为单场决胜制，如果９０分钟打平将直接以互罚点球方式决出胜负。
